Dear Parent / Guardian,
Every year as part of Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD), the year 5 and Year 6 classes take part in separate specific lessons based on past events and subsequent conflicts. Both classes joined together this afternoon to learn, discuss and complete activities designed for their age group. The Slide presentation was designed for Primary aged pupils and contained a small amount of information. This can be viewed on the HMD website. Some of the pupils were really interested to look into this subject further, however I have advised everyone to ask you to view any material before they watch, or read about it in order to gauge suitability.
Your child may wish to discuss some of the issues raised with you at home. This year the theme is ‘Stand Together’.
I have also asked the whole school to become involved in an Art activity,’75 Memorial Flames’ to mark the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau camp.
For further information please go to: https://www.hmd.org.uk/ clicking on Discover our resources at the bottom of the page, then following the links for Primary Schools. I thank you for helping us to teach our children how events in history and the lessons learned, can be used to shape and inform future behaviours.
