Croeso i Blwyddyn Pump.
Monday 23rd September.
First of all, welcome to year 5. Your children have settled in very well over the past few weeks and you can see how much they are maturing already.
We have had a busy few weeks learning all about our new school topic, The Rugby World Cup. We began the topic by finding out what the children would like to know and learn about over this half term, they have came up with some really exciting responses.
' I would like to create our own national anthem!'
' We should create an imovie all about the Rugby World Cup.'
' I would love to learn how to play rugby!'
' In literacy we could make an advert.'
' In humanities we could learn all about the countries that are taking part.'
We cannot wait to put these ideas into practice.
In literacy, language and communication we have already been analysing, planning and creating our own adverts. The children have been extremely creative. This week we will be creating brochures. If they could collect some examples of brochures on their travels this will really help.
The skills that the children have been developing in Mathematics over the past weeks have been to read and write numbers up to 100,000. Multiply and divide numbers by 10 and 100 and make estimations of length. This week we will be learning how to identify connections between fractions. E.g- 1/2 is the same as 2/4.
Topic work- the children have been super busy creating presentations on the history of the Rugby World Cup. This week they will present their presentations to a different year group through out the school.
If you have any queries or would just like to pop and say hello, my door is always open.
Many regards Mrs Jenkins.
